Warren County Cooperative Extension announces its annual Four County 4-H Poultry Show and Sale project is kicking off in February with an interest meeting on February 21st.
Any young person who resides in Franklin, Granville, Vance, or Warren County is encouraged to participate. Youth must be between the ages of 5 and 18 years. Each participant will receive ten biddies and will need access to a location for their poultry project for five months. Youth participants will be responsible for raising and caring for the biddies.
During the project year, assistance and guidance will be provided by the Warren County Cooperative
Extension team. During the show, youth participants will display their chicken project (three birds) and showcase what they learned about raising chickens from day-old chicks to maturity. Immediately after the show, buyers can purchase the show birds through an auction process.
Through this project, it is intended that youth will gain life skills (decision-making, responsibility, self-esteem, record-keeping, relationships, and more) and earn premiums from their hard work. This could be an excellent opportunity for youth to start their own business by selling eggs to family, friends, church members, and other community members. Participating in the Four County 4-H Poultry Show and Sale is a “wing-wing” (win-win) opportunity for all involved.
There will be a Poultry Show and Sale Interest Meeting via Zoom on February 21st, 2023 at 6:30 PM. To register, please visit https://go.ncsu.edu/4countypoultry2023.
