Position Description: Emergency Services Captain/Compliance Officer*

Job Duties

Serves as Compliance Officer to oversee:  training, medical logistics, infection control/health & safety for the Emergency Medical Services & Safety divisions; oversees & records the training activities of all county agencies providing emergency services; establishes & evaluates policies, procedures & operations; prepares & maintains detailed reports & files; provides paramedic coverage during times of staffing shortage; performs related duties as required.

Education and Experience

Any combination of education & experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by required emergency medical & paramedic training, including NIMS courses & considerable experience in emergency medical services, including some supervisory experience.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:  Associate's degree with course work in public safety, field & classroom work as a paramedic & considerable experience in emergency medical work at the paramedic level, including experience as a classroom instructor; experience as a level II EMS instructor as dictated by NCOEMS or level I instructor with the ability to obtain level II within 2 years; familiarity with OSHA standards as well as familiarity with infection control policies & procedures; certification at the operations level for hazardous materials; experience in logistics.

Special Requirements

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:  Valid driver's license in good standing; certification as a North Carolina EMT-Paramedic; ACLS, PALS/PEPP, CPR, EVD, ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800, & ITLS/PHTLS certifications required; preference given to instructor level; must meet & maintain minimum qualifications for the position as established by the department & the state of North Carolina.
